Proper positioning of Neckmike is essential to achieve good results! The Neckmike microphone cabinet should be worn 1-2″ (3-5cm) to the side of your voice box, with full contact against the neck skin. It should be placed relatively high on the neck, otherwise your voice may sound muffled. It can be worn on either side of the voice box.
If you have a higher pitched voice, you may want to move the microphone cabinet further away from the voice box for best results. Experiment with the location of the microphone cabinet while using Neckmike to see what position is best for you.
The Velcro retention strap is used to maintain the best microphone position for your voice. Once fitted, the excess strap material may be trimmed with scissors and discarded.
Neckmike provides approximately 25dB in noise reduction when fitted properly.
Unlike open air microphones, which are affected by wind and surrounding noise, the Neckmike microphone picks up your voice “at the source”, and is designed to give your voice the best possible quality, even when the ambient noise level is high. Just speak in a normal voice with the person you are communicating, without shouting.
You should experiment with the location of the Neckmike microphone, high on the neck, and closer or further from your voice box to achieve the optimum results for your voice type. Remember, even “whispering under your breath” may be heard by the person you are communicating with, so be careful with what you say! =)
A coiled extension cable is used to connect between the headset and the Bluetooth transceiver. It is made with inline filters to reduce the microphone sensitivity, as many riders tend to talk loudly while riding at speed. Also, this cable ensures a positive connection to the Bluetooth unit, with a slightly longer 4 segment plug. The right-angled end goes into the Bluetooth unit and the straight end connects with the Neckmike headset.
If the sound is not quite right, CHECK YOUR CABLE CONNECTIONS! Each connection must be firmly “clicked” in place in order to make a good connection and function properly. A loose connection can cause a loss of sound in one or both earbud speakers, and may cause the other person to not hear you.
If the cable connections are good and you are still having trouble, the extension cable may be faulty or broken, so please contact us for a replacement.
If you cannot hear your music or the person at the other end of a Bluetooth intercom or phone call, CHECK YOUR CABLE CONNECTIONS! Each connection must be firmly “clicked” in place in order to make a good connection and function properly. A loose connection can cause a loss of sound in one or both earbud speakers, and may cause the other person to not hear you.
Also, if you are having trouble hearing, check to see that the volume is turned up on the Bluetooth unit and/or smartphone.
If the cable connections are good and you are still having trouble, the extension cable may be faulty or broken, so please contact us for a replacement.
Dropped Bluetooth intercom sessions may result of too much distance between the units, a blocked Bluetooth signal or RF (radio frequency) interference. Remember, the range of the Bluetooth intercom is greatly influenced by terrain such as trees and hills, obstacles such as large trucks and buildings, and even weather conditions.
If a dropped or blocked signal occurs, the units will continue to search for each other for about two minutes after the signal is lost, and will automatically reestablish the intercom session when possible. Alternatively, one of the users can push the appropriate intercom button to reestablish the connection once the units are within sight again.
Dropped intercom sessions may also be caused by strong RF interference. Bluetooth operates in the 2.4 GHz spectrum, which can receive interference from microwave signals and certain electrical sources such as power lines and electrical railroad tracks, as well as cordless phones, WI-FI routers, wireless speakers, video senders, and more. If you suspect RF interference, you should reset both units by pressing the small gray reset button, power the units up and re-open the intercom by pressing the appropriate intercom button. Resetting the units will not cause any Bluetooth pairings to be lost, however it will reset the volume to a lower level.
Another source of dropped sessions can be a low battery in one or more of the units. The unit will sound a low battery alarm in the headset a few minutes before shutting down.
Neckmike is designed for all-day comfort and the neck band is flexible to accommodate different neck sizes. The microphone cabinet should have full contact against the skin for the best performance. The microphone cabinet is held in place by the built-in tension of the neck band. For active use, you should use the included hook and loop retention strap to hold the Neckmike securely in place
Before placing Neckmike around your neck, gently bend the neck band every few inches, which will decrease the overall diameter of the neck band prior to wearing. This will help to ensure proper tension in the band (keeping the microphone cabinet in full contact against the neck), and should be done each time you wear Neckmike.
Neckmike comes with multiple sizes of earplugs, to fit different diameter and depth of ear canals. The small size is black, medium size is green and large size is blue. You should experiment to find the size that best fits your ear canal. When fitted correctly, outside noises should sound muted, as when you put your fingers in your ears.
Install the earplugs by reaching over head with the opposite hand and gently pulling up and back on outer ear to straighten the ear canal. With opposite hand, grasp the earplug and insert with a circular or wiggling motion to form an airtight seal. For the best seal, rub a few drops of water onto the ear plugs prior to insertion (make sure to avoid the center speaker hole of the ear plug) or put some water droplets on your finger to wet your ear canal prior to insertion. Lightly wetting the ear plugs or ear canal will enable easier insertion into the ear and will provide a better acoustic seal.
The earplug should remain securely in place when there’s a good seal. If you’ve inserted the earplug as far as is comfortable, but cannot achieve a good seal, try a larger size earplug.
Of course! The Neckmike earplug speakers fit beneath your helmet as with regular foam or silicone ear plugs. Most helmets provide ample room for earplugs, however you may want to shorten the longer silicone earplugs (green or blue) so that they protrude less inside the helmet.
Simply remove the earplugs from the micro-speakers by pulling gently on both parts (do not pull on the speaker wire), cut off the clear section of silicone which reduces the overall length of the earplug, and re-attach to the micro-speakers.
Please refer to the User Guide for additional instruction and images.
The Neckmike silicone earplugs are designed to provide comfortable hearing protection, while enabling you to hear voice communication, music, navigation instructions, etc. via the built-in speakers. Proper fitment is essential for blocking out unwanted outside sounds and enabling you to hear the relevant audio enabled by Neckmike.
If your ear canals are shallow and / or you are having trouble achieving a good seal, then the medium (green) or large (blue) silicone earplugs may be modified by simply removing the smallest flange at the tip of the earplug in order to improve the fit. This can be done with sharp scissors or a clean razor blade.
Also, if you are using earplugs with a helmet, you can shorten the earplugs on the end which affixes to the micro-speakers, so that the earplugs do not protrude uncomfortably inside the helmet. Simply cut off the clear section of silicone on the earplugs, and reattach to the micro-speakers.
The silicone earplugs may be washed by hand with warm soap and water. Note: Earplugs should be removed from the micro-speakers prior to cleaning and should be completely dry prior to reattaching to the micro-speakers. Otherwise, the micro-speakers may be damaged by the water.
When you press any button on the handlebar remote, a red LED backlight will normally illuminate behind the keys in the top half of the remote. If this backlight is not working, then the built-in lithium-ion battery most likely needs to be recharged.
Use the charging cable that came with your Neckmike M4 Bluetooth transceiver to recharge the remote (it is the same cable that is used to main unit). The charging cable is plugged into a 2.5mm charging port, located behind a gray silicone cover on the side of the remote.
